Semi colon;

I don't use it.

Most people who do, couldn’t tell you why, or explain when not to.

Join me in shunning it. We already have the full stop and the comma.

Grammarly love the semi colon

Look at this confusing sentence, a suggestion on how to use the semi colon from the Grammarly blog.

"I need the weather statistics for the following cities: London, England; London, Ontario; Paris, France; Paris, Ontario; Perth, Scotland; Perth, Ontario."

And this ugly complexity.

"My plan included taking him to a nice—though not necessarily expensive—dinner; going to the park to look at the stars, which, by the way, are amazing this time of year; and serenading him with my accordion."

The blog ends with "So whether you’re using it to whip up a good complex sentence"

And that's the problem.

Semi colons are an addiction for the writer in love with complexity and themselves. Their taunting ego makes them prove they know how to use it.

I think the semi colon will fade into obscurity.

Help me make it happen.
